Santa Cruz, CA (May 15, 2026) – At least one person was injured in a hit-and-run collision involving a stolen vehicle on Thursday, May 14, near the corner of Ocean Street and Washburn Avenue in Santa Cruz, close to a McDonald’s. The incident started around 8:02 p.m. after a witness reported a white Toyota Camry weaving erratically across multiple lanes. The caller reported being right behind the vehicle, which was swerving erratically. Debris was found scattered across the road, and the Camry finally stopped on the right shoulder. The collision involved two vehicles and was determined to be a hit-and-run that resulted in injuries. San Jose police records indicate that the white Toyota Camry was a stolen vehicle, reported missing in March 2025. Police attempted to reach a witness at another address linked to the stolen car. No further information on the victim’s status has been verified so far. Authorities are still investigating the crash and will release more details as they become available. Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical treatment. What Happens When a Stolen Vehicle Is Involved in a Crash in California? In California, when a stolen vehicle is involved in a crash, the event usually sets off two distinct investigations: one focused on the collision and another on the vehicle theft. Officers at the scene collect evidence from both parties, which may include vehicle details, surveillance video from local businesses, and statements from witnesses.
