Montebello, CA (May 15, 2026) – A house fire that broke out Thursday, May 14, in the 100 block of South Fifth Street, just south of Whittier Boulevard, claimed the lives of three people, including a child. Emergency crews responded shortly after 4:30 a.m. and discovered a home completely consumed by fire. Two adults—one male and one female—were found outside the residence suffering from severe burns. The blaze had extended to a separate building, causing local residents to evacuate. The two adults were rushed to hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to their injuries. A child, thought to be around 12 or 13 years old, was discovered dead inside the home. The victims were identified solely as an adult male, an adult female, and a child. The names of those involved have not been made public as of this reporting. Officials stated that the blaze seems linked to domestic violence. Authorities have identified the adult male as the suspect in the incident and stated that no other suspects remain at large and there is no threat to the local community. The exact connection between the three victims has not been officially verified, although neighbors informed local media that the child was the woman’s son.
