The incident occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. On Thursday, February 26, near the intersection of Buchanan Road and Woodborough Place, officers responded and found a 46-year-old Concord man lying in the roadway. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene despite rescue attempts. Officials have not publicly disclosed his name until family notification and confirmation are complete. Police reported that the 37-year-old Pittsburgh man driving the sedan was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He stayed at the crash site following the collision and sustained no injuries. Officials are still probing the reason for the accident. We offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim. How Crashes Involving DUI Affect Motorcycle Riders. Impaired drivers’ crashes present a significant danger to motorcyclists. Motorcycles are smaller and less noticeable than most passenger cars, making them harder for other drivers to spot at intersections. Impairment from alcohol or drugs can slow reaction times and impair judgment. This can heighten the risk of turning in front of an oncoming motorcycle or misjudging its distance and speed. Motorcyclists also have far less physical protection than occupants of enclosed vehicles. Consequently, even one crash at an intersection may cause serious or deadly injuries.
