Stanislaus County, CA (March 9, 2026) – Four individuals, including two children, were killed in a fiery crash early Sunday morning in rural Stanislaus County near Oakdale. The accident took place just after 3 a.m. On March 8 on Oakdale-Waterford Highway near Claribel Road, emergency units responded to reports of a vehicle crash and discovered an SUV fully engulfed in flames. Investigators believe that six people were in the vehicle during the crash. Authorities reported that the SUV was heading north on Oakdale-Waterford Highway when it veered off the right side of the road and hit a concrete barrier. A 12-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, the two passengers, managed to get out of the vehicle by themselves. Two adults and two additional children were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have withheld the victims’ identities pending the ongoing investigation into the crash. Our heartfelt condolences go to the victims’ families. Why Rural Highway Single-Vehicle Crashes Can Be So Deadly. Roads like the Oakdale-Waterford Highway frequently traverse rural regions, where vehicles often reach higher speeds and shoulders can be narrow. When a vehicle veers off the roadway, drivers often have minimal room to regain control safely before hitting barriers or other hazards. Impacts with concrete barriers can cause extensive damage since these structures remain stationary upon collision.
