Carlsbad, CA (September 15, 2025) – In the early morning hours of Saturday, a bicyclist was tragically killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident involving a DUI on Carlsbad Blvd, as reported by the Carlsbad Police Department. The incident happened around 4:30 AM on September 13 in the 4400 block of Carlsbad Blvd, located between Tamarack Ave and Cannon Rd. Officials stated that a vehicle traveling north hit the bicyclist and left the scene without offering assistance. Emergency responders arrived shortly after but discovered that the cyclist had already died from their injuries. The individual who was harmed was declared dead at the location of the incident. Subsequently, the Carlsbad police found and apprehended the alleged driver, 27-year-old Alexander Gendron from Escondido, roughly one mile away from where the accident occurred. He was taken into custody at the Vista Detention Facility on allegations of driving under the influence and committing a felony hit-and-run. Authorities acknowledged the role of local residents, automated license plate recognition, and drone technology in locating the suspect. The inquiry is still in progress, and the name of the deceased cyclist has not been disclosed to the public. We offer our deepest sympathies to the victim’s family and friends as they navigate this heartbreaking and challenging period.
