Banning, CA (April 27, 2026) – Two individuals were hurt Sunday afternoon, April 26, when a vehicle veered off the road in Banning and plunged several hundred feet into a ravine. The incident occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. on the 8500 block of Bluff Street. Emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, arrived at the scene after the vehicle ended up below the road. Firefighters extracted the two occupants from the mangled car. They then employed a basket-and-rope rescue system to hoist the patients up to waiting ambulances. One individual was transported to a hospital via ground ambulance, suffering minor to moderate injuries. Paramedics examined the second person on-site. Authorities are still investigating the incident. Our thoughts are with the victims as we wish them a speedy recovery. Ravine Crashes and Rescue Challenges. Crashes in ravines can be challenging since the vehicle might end up well below the road surface. Steep terrain, loose soil, and restricted access can hinder crews from reaching people quickly. A rope-and-basket system might be employed when patients cannot safely walk back to the road. This rescue method enables the safe and stable transport of injured individuals up steep slopes. Roadway departure crashes can result in various injuries.
