Salinas, CA (January 2, 2026) – Emergency responders were dispatched to a train-bicyclist crash near Abbott Street in Salinas on New Year’s Day, following a conductor’s report of hitting a person on the tracks, per dispatch audio. The event took place around 6:17 p.m. Behind Abbott St near the railroad tracks, close to Harkins Rd and Harris Rd. Union Pacific alerted emergency services after the train conductor reported possibly striking a bicyclist in the area. Salinas Fire personnel and medical units, including Medic 52 and Engine 3, were sent Code 3 to the scene. Police were also dispatched to help manage the response and probe the report. The bicyclist’s identity and condition have not been confirmed yet, and the severity of any injuries is still unknown according to the most recent updates. The incident is being actively investigated, with authorities determining if the train made contact and the events leading to the possible collision.
