Emergency responders were sent to the intersection of Figueroa Street and 3rd Street around 2:03 a.m. Emergency responders arrived at the scene of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection. One individual from the crash was transported to a hospital following the incident. Officials later confirmed the individual succumbed to their injuries. Authorities have not disclosed the victim’s identity. Information regarding the individuals involved or the circumstances of the crash was not available right away. The investigation into the crash’s cause is ongoing, with additional details to be shared as they emerge. We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. Why Investigators Examine Potential Impairment Following a Crash. Following a major accident, investigators check if alcohol or drugs impaired any of the drivers involved. Impairment can alter a driver’s response to traffic signals, nearby vehicles, and road hazards. Substances impacting the body can slow reaction time and diminish attention. Drivers might also find it hard to gauge speed or distance, raising the risk of an accident. Post-collision evidence consists of vehicle locations, road markings, and witness statements from those present.
