How Pedestrian Accidents Frequently Happen at Intersections. Pedestrian accidents commonly occur at intersections with concurrent foot and vehicle traffic. Drivers might be turning, switching lanes, or nearing traffic signals as pedestrians cross, creating hazardous scenarios if visibility or timing is poor. Typical contributors are reduced nighttime visibility, not yielding the right-of-way, and distractions affecting drivers or pedestrians. Crosswalk markings and signals are intended to direct traffic flow, yet they are not always obeyed or visible. Road design can also impact safety. Broader roads and elevated speed limits heighten the danger of serious injuries when vehicles strike pedestrians.
