(Santa Rosa, CA) A man in his 70s suffered critical injuries in a hit-and-run on Morgan Street Wednesday evening when a pickup truck struck him while he was crossing in a Santa Rosa crosswalk. Santa Rosa officers responded around 7:13 p.m. to College Avenue and Morgan Street. Upon arrival, they discovered the pedestrian unresponsive in the road. First responders quickly transported him to a nearby hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries. Investigators report that the man was crossing College Avenue in the eastern crosswalk when a blue 2019 Toyota Tacoma traveling at about 35 mph hit him. The driver fled the scene but abandoned the truck’s bumper and front license plate. Twenty-four minutes later, officials identified the suspect as 31-year-old Brigido Peña Villanueva from Greenfield. Accounts reported that his windshield wipers malfunctioned during the rain at the time of the crash. Officers arrested him and booked him into custody on felony hit-and-run charges that caused serious bodily injury.
