(Tucson, AZ) Two young adults died late Monday night, January 5, in a collision on 22nd Street between a dirt bike and a passenger vehicle. The Tucson Police Department reported the crash happened around 10 p.m. at the intersection of East 22nd Street and South Country Club Road. Officers from the Operations Division Midtown and the Tucson Fire Department arrived at the scene and declared two individuals dead. The victims were identified as 18-year-old E’Lyanha Nevaeh Valenzuela and 20-year-old Mickey Daniel Ortiz. Police stated that both were on the dirt bike during the crash, but it remains unconfirmed who was driving. The driver of the Kia SUV involved in the crash sustained no injuries. Investigators say evidence and witness statements show the dirt bike was traveling eastbound on 22nd Street. At one point, the westbound Kia tried to make a left turn onto southbound Country Club Road. The dirt bike collided with the passenger side of the SUV. According to police, neither Valenzuela nor Ortiz was wearing a helmet, and the dirt bike lacked a working headlamp. An officer with the Tucson Police Department’s Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit assessed the Kia driver and detected no evidence of impairment. Investigators are continuing efforts to ascertain the condition of the traffic lights during the accident.
