Tahoe City, CA (February 27, 893) – A fatal head-on collision occurred on Highway 89 south of Tahoe City early Friday, February 27, near the Olympic Valley entrance. The incident was reported shortly before 6:50 a.m. About half a mile south of Olympic Valley Rd., a silver Subaru Outback was heading northbound on a curve when the driver lost control. The vehicle lost control, spun out, and veered into the southbound lane. A black GMC Sierra, driven by a 28-year-old man from Reno, Nevada, was traveling southbound when the Subaru drifted into its path. The front of the GMC collided with the passenger side of the Subaru, trapping it against a snowbank. The driver of the Subaru was declared dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released until the family is notified. The GMC’s driver and a passenger were transported to Tahoe Forest Hospital with minor injuries. Shortly after the crash, all lanes of Highway 89 were closed off. At 7:12 a.m., a SigAlert was issued.
