Simi Valley, CA (April 26, 2026) – A fatal accident in Simi Valley took the life of a teenage boy Saturday evening following a crash with an Amtrak train at a rail crossing. The Ventura County Fire Department reported the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. close to the intersection of East Los Angeles Avenue and Sequoia Avenue. Authorities report that the teen was riding southbound on a two-wheeled motorized vehicle on the eastern sidewalk when the crash happened. Simi Valley Police Department officials stated that the teen rode into the crossing and couldn’t brake in time before being hit by the oncoming train. Emergency responders arrived swiftly and tried to revive the teenager, but the teen was declared dead on site. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed yet. Officials are still probing the details of the crash. We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the victim’s family and loved ones amid this challenging period. Why Railroad Crossings Pose Particular Risks for Riders. Railroad crossings present serious hazards, especially to pedestrians and users of small vehicles like scooters, bicycles, or other motorized two-wheelers. These crossings demand complete attention, since trains move at high speeds and can’t stop abruptly if something blocks the tracks. In contrast to regular road vehicles, trains follow fixed routes with limited options for slowing down or changing direction. Even with signals and warnings in place, miscalculating timing or speed can lead to catastrophic outcomes. Inexperienced or distracted younger riders are particularly susceptible.
