Santa Barbara, CA (October 20, 2025) – Early Sunday morning, a one-car accident near the Santa Barbara Bowl resulted in four individuals being taken to the hospital and the subsequent arrest of a young driver on charges of DUI and child endangerment, as reported by the Santa Barbara Police Department. The incident took place shortly after 12:35 a.m. At the junction of N Milpas St and Anapamu St, officials report that an 18-year-old named Sebastian Escamilla Lopez was driving a white Audi sedan heading east on Anapamu St. He apparently did not manage to make a 90-degree turn onto Milpas St, leading the vehicle to veer off the road and crash into a tree. Emergency responders arrived promptly to evaluate the injuries at the site of the accident. Lopez and three passengers, including a minor, suffered injuries that varied from slight to moderate. All four persons were taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for medical care. After the accident, Lopez was detained on charges of driving while intoxicated and felony child endangerment because a minor was in the car. Once he is discharged from medical treatment, he is anticipated to be taken into custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail.
