Santa Ana, CA (May 11, 2026) – A man on a bicycle was fatally struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Fairview Street and 12th Street in Santa Ana. The collision occurred on Sunday, May 11, at approximately 12:09 p.m. A preliminary investigation determined that the cyclist was crossing Fairview Street when he was struck by a southbound vehicle. Emergency services arrived at the scene, where the cyclist was declared dead. The driver remained on site and is cooperating with the investigation. Impairment is not believed to have played a role in this crash. The incident is still under review by authorities, and additional information will be released as it becomes available. We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the cyclist who tragically lost his life.
Bicycle Safety at Intersections in California. Intersections rank among the most hazardous locations for cyclists in California, especially on multi-lane roads where vehicles travel at high speeds. When a cyclist crosses the street, drivers often have less time to notice them, particularly if the crossing isn’t at a location where motorists anticipate seeing pedestrians or cyclists. Under California law, cyclists must obey the same traffic rules as drivers in many cases, including when and where they cross major roadways. Marked crosswalks provide cyclists and pedestrians with a clear, visible, and predictable route when crossing roads with traffic. Streets such as Fairview St in Santa Ana handle heavy traffic volumes, so crossing at unmarked locations can leave cyclists directly in the path of fast-moving vehicles that have little time to react.
