San Diego, CA (January 12, 2026) – Dispatch reports indicate a severe wrong-way crash on southbound Highway 163 early Saturday morning resulted in one person suffering life-threatening injuries. The incident took place around 3:52 a.m. On January 11, it triggered a significant emergency response. Emergency crews arrived to discover a vehicle traveling the wrong way that had crashed. One patient became trapped in the debris and suffered serious injuries to the lower leg and foot. Firefighters extracted the individual from the scene before paramedics rushed them to a local hospital in critical condition. Officials noted that at least one other person might have been involved in the incident, but their condition was unconfirmed at the time of the report. The precise cause of the wrong-way driving and resulting collision is still being investigated. Traffic faced temporary disruptions as crews cleared the area and implemented trauma procedures.
