San Diego, CA (May 16, 2026) – A 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed Friday afternoon after colliding with a sedan at the intersection of El Cajon Boulevard and 56th Street in San Diego’s El Cerrito neighborhood. The crash happened at approximately 12:56 p.m. on May 15, according to the San Diego Police Department. A 22-year-old woman driving a 2019 Toyota sedan was heading west on El Cajon Boulevard and attempting a left turn onto 56th Street while the traffic light was green. At the same time, a motorcyclist was heading east on El Cajon Boulevard with a green light when he collided with the front passenger side of the Toyota. Emergency responders took the rider to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Toyota driver was also transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. According to police, alcohol is not thought to have been a factor in the crash. The matter is still being investigated by officials. Our thoughts go out to the motorcyclist’s family as they navigate this challenging period. What Factors Are Typically Examined in Left-Turn Motorcycle Accidents? Collisions where a vehicle turns left into a motorcycle are frequently analyzed to establish which party had the right-of-way and how the traffic signals were perceived by both parties at the moment of impact. These accidents frequently happen when a turning vehicle cuts directly into the path of an approaching motorcycle. Investigators usually analyze signal timing, vehicle speeds, and visibility at the intersection. Motorcycles’ smaller size and lower visibility compared to cars make enhanced conspicuity a primary concern.
