Palm Springs, CA (September 28, 2025) – A devastating accident on Friday night resulted in the death of a 74-year-old man who was hit by a car while he was walking in Palm Springs. Officials identified the deceased as Craig Von Bargen from New York. The fatal accident took place shortly after 9:30 p.m. at the crossing of Palm Canyon Drive and Via Las Palmas. The Palm Springs Police Department reported that Von Bargen was crossing Palm Canyon Dr heading east when a southbound vehicle hit him. Emergency personnel quickly arrived and tried to save his life, but he was declared dead at the scene because of the extent of his injuries. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene, but details about their identity or whether drug impairment or speed was a factor have not yet been disclosed. Officials are currently looking into the events preceding the incident. Palm Canyon Dr was partially shut down late Friday night while police examined the site and collected evidence.
