(Bellflower, CA) A 24-year-old motorcyclist died Wednesday morning, December 10, in a crash on the eastbound Artesia Freeway involving an SUV just west of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway. Authorities received reports of the collision around 7:30 a.m. Police on the scene discovered one individual unresponsive in the road. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner subsequently identified the victim as Rigoberto Ruiz Raygoza. Officials closed the carpool and far-left lanes while conducting the investigation. This caused severe traffic backups extending to the Long Beach (710) Freeway and triggered a SigAlert. CHP has not yet provided details on how the crash happened. The investigation is ongoing. Overview of the Eastbound Artesia Freeway Crash. In cases of a motorcycle-SUV collision amid heavy freeway traffic, investigators usually evaluate the Lane Usage and Safe Movement Law. This law mandates that drivers remain in their lane until they can change it safely. Sudden drifting or unsafe lane changes can pose particular dangers to motorcyclists riding alongside larger vehicles. Officers also assess compliance with the Basic Speed Law.
