Oroville, CA (March 6, 2026) – A delivery truck and a pickup collided head-on Thursday afternoon, March 5, on Hwy 70 near Cherokee Rd in Oroville, Butte County, injuring two drivers. Emergency units arrived at the scene around 2:46 p.m. following reports of a major crash obstructing traffic on the road. Preliminary reports show a FedEx delivery truck heading westbound veered into the eastbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision with a pickup truck pulling a trailer. Both drivers were pinned inside their vehicles after the crash. Responders, along with a witness at the scene, helped free one driver as crews extracted the other from the wrecked vehicle. Both drivers sustained moderate injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for care. Officials stated that both patients were stable after the crash. The collision inflicted severe damage on the vehicles and temporarily blocked both westbound lanes of Hwy 70 while crews cleared the debris. Authorities are still probing the crash’s cause, with additional details to follow as they emerge. We’re keeping the injured in our thoughts during their recovery. Why Head-On Collisions Frequently Result in Major Highway Accidents. Head-on collisions rank among the deadliest roadway accidents since the vehicles are moving directly toward one another at the time of impact. When vehicles traveling in opposite directions collide, their combined speed can significantly amplify the crash’s force. Such incidents often happen if a vehicle crosses the center line or enters the wrong lane.
