Oceanside, CA (April 16, 2026) – A hit-and-run crash in Oceanside fatally struck a 78-year-old pedestrian. The incident happened around 5:15 a.m. On Thursday, April 16, along Mission Ave just east of Mesa Dr., a westbound 2005 Toyota Tacoma struck the pedestrian and fled the scene, authorities said. Emergency responders arrived and declared the victim dead on site. The identity of the individual has not been disclosed yet. Authorities subsequently found the suspect’s vehicle in the 200 block of Los Arbolitos. A 24-year-old male was arrested in relation to the incident and held in custody. The collision resulted in a brief shutdown of eastbound Mission Ave from Mesa Dr to Butler St, leading to local traffic delays. Officials stated that drugs or alcohol are not suspected as factors in the incident. Authorities are still investigating the crash’s cause, with additional details to be released when available.
