Manteca, CA (May 9, 2026) – Two individuals sustained serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash that included a head-on collision on the evening of Friday, May 8, in Manteca. Emergency responders arrived after 5:30 p.m. to the section of South Union Road between Liggett Court and Marion Street. Police reported that a Chevrolet Corvette and a Nissan Rogue were both heading south on South Union Road when they crashed. The Corvette then veered into the oncoming northbound lanes and collided head-on with a Toyota Camry. Fire crews had to free both drivers from their vehicles. A 33-year-old Manteca man in the Corvette and a 67-year-old Manteca woman in the Camry were both taken to local hospitals with serious injuries. The 49-year-old driver of the Nissan Rogue, who had a passenger with him, was uninjured. The road stayed closed for several hours before reopening around 10 p.m. Details on the cause of the crash and whether impairment was a factor have not yet been confirmed. The investigation is still underway, and additional information will be released as soon as it becomes available. Our thoughts are with those who were injured as they recover.
What Factors Can Lead to Head-on Collisions on Undivided Roads? Head-on crashes frequently happen when a driver veers across the centerline into the path of oncoming vehicles. This may occur due to loss of control, distraction, unsafe overtaking, or abrupt steering inputs. On undivided roads, the lack of physical barriers between opposing traffic streams heightens the chance of serious collisions if a vehicle drifts across the centerline.
