Long Beach, CA (February 20, 2026) – Early Friday, February 20, a woman in her 40s was rushed to a hospital in critical condition after firefighters rescued her from a blaze at a four-unit apartment building near Euclid Avenue and Fountain Street in Long Beach. Multiple 911 calls reported the fire just after 3:30 a.m. Callers reported seeing flames and feared someone might still be trapped inside. Prior to the firefighters’ arrival, a neighbor shattered a window and tried to combat the blaze using a garden hose, which helped stop it from spreading more. The firefighters found the trapped woman and rescued her from the burning unit. She was transported to a local hospital suffering from burns and was in critical condition. Officials stated that the fire was completely put out within 15 minutes, partly due to the neighbor’s efforts. Authorities are still probing the fire’s origin, with further information to be shared as it emerges. Our thoughts are with the injured woman, and we wish her a complete recovery. Why Your Neighbors’ Response Can Make a Difference in Apartment Fires. Fires in multi-unit buildings can spread rapidly, particularly if they ignite during the night. Neighbors’ quick response—like that on February 20—helps firefighters access victims sooner and limit damage to nearby units. If a fire starts, call 911 immediately and, if it’s safe, direct first responders to any trapped individuals.
