Long Beach, CA (February 20, 2026) – Long Beach police report that a pedestrian died late on February 18 after a pickup truck hit them on 7th Street just east of Cherry Avenue, close to the Rose Park neighborhood. The incident took place shortly before 10:50 p.m. A 2007 Toyota Tundra, traveling eastbound in the right lane, struck a man who had reportedly stepped into the street from between two parked cars. Paramedics rushed the victim to a local hospital, where he was subsequently declared dead. Officials have not yet disclosed the man’s identity until his family is notified, and his age was not immediately known. Police reported that the pickup truck driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Speed is suspected to have played a role in the collision, the second deadly accident in the city in only a few hours. Officials are still probing the reason for the crash, with additional information to follow as it emerges. We extend our sympathies to the victim’s family. How Speeding Raises the Danger of Deadly Pedestrian Accidents in Urban Areas. High-speed vehicle travel in urban neighborhoods dramatically increases the risk of fatal crashes, particularly for pedestrians. On streets like 7th St, with cars parked along both sides, pedestrians might dart into traffic between intersections, posing unexpected dangers to motorists. Speed limits allow drivers sufficient time to respond, yet even a minor speed increase can sharply shorten stopping distances.
