Fresno, CA (May 8, 2026) – A motorcycle officer sustained injuries Thursday evening, May 7, following a rear-end collision near the southbound Highway 99 and Highway 180 interchange in Fresno. The precise time of the collision was not immediately released. Officials reported that the officer was decelerating to help a disabled vehicle on the roadside. A vehicle approached from behind and collided with the officer’s motorcycle, ejecting the rider. The officer was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver who struck the motorcycle stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. It was not yet known whether impairment played a role in the crash. The incident is still being investigated. Additional information could emerge as officials proceed with their investigation. Our thoughts are with the injured officer, and we hope for their complete recovery. Understanding How Rear-End Collisions Can Harm Motorcycle Riders. Motorcycle rear-end collisions tend to be especially severe, since riders have virtually no protection against the force of impact. A rear-end collision might unseat the rider or force the motorcycle into adjacent traffic or roadside obstacles. Interchange zones heighten the danger, as vehicles are often merging, decelerating, or switching lanes. A disabled vehicle on the shoulder can also divert attention from the surrounding traffic.
