On Tuesday morning, November 17, an 89-year-old woman suffered severe injuries in a car accident on Imperial Avenue in the Jamacha neighborhood of San Diego, California, as per authorities. The San Diego Police Department reported that the collision happened around 10:30 a.m. A woman in a Volkswagen Jetta tried to turn left from westbound Imperial Avenue onto Viewcrest Drive. During a turn, her car was hit by a westbound Ford Excursion on Imperial, according to SDPD Officer Sarah Foster. The woman suffered from severe injuries such as brain hemorrhages, a fractured cervical spine, and a broken orbital bone, which required hospitalization after being transported by paramedics. No additional injuries were reported from the accident. The intersection was briefly partially closed while police gathered evidence and cleared away debris. The inquiry into the reasons behind the crash is still proceeding. Summary of the Imperial Avenue Incident. When accidents happen while making left turns, investigators generally examine the Left Turn or U-Turn Law. This law mandates that drivers making a left turn must give way to approaching traffic until it is safe to complete the turn. Not waiting for a clear path frequently leads to significant right-of-way accidents. The Basic Speed Law might also be relevant if investigators find that either driver was driving too fast given the road or visibility conditions.
