Davis, CA (April 15, 2026) – A college student biking was killed in a crash with a vehicle on Hutchison Drive near the West Village housing area in Davis. The incident happened just before 3 p.m. On the west side of the campus, on Monday, April 13. Emergency responders arrived at the scene after reports of a vehicle striking a bicyclist near a residential neighborhood. Authorities confirmed the bicyclist, a UC Davis student, died from injuries sustained in the crash. The identity of the student has not yet been made public. No further information has been released about the driver or the events preceding the collision. Officials are still probing the reason for the accident, with additional details to follow as they emerge. We offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased. Why Collisions Between Bicycles and Vehicles Can Be Particularly Serious. Bicycle-vehicle crashes frequently cause severe injuries since cyclists don’t have the protection offered by enclosed vehicles. Even at reduced speeds, the collision can result in serious injuries. Roads in residential or campus neighborhoods often have a combination of pedestrians, cyclists, and cars.
