(Lakeland Village, CA) A 57-year-old woman, Danielle Leveque, was fatally struck by a vehicle at a residential intersection on Stoneman Street late Monday night, January 5, just after 11 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Police reported that the crash happened at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Stoneman Street. After investigation, they discovered that Leveque was walking south on Grand Avenue. At some point, she stepped into the path of traffic moving through the intersection. According to CHP Officer Brian Seel, a 33-year-old woman driving a 2010 Toyota Prius was also traveling southbound on Grand Avenue at an estimated 45 mph when Leveque suddenly entered her path. According to officers, the driver had virtually no time to brake or swerve prior to the collision. The impact hurled the pedestrian a brief distance south of Stoneman Street. Officials stated that the driver pulled over right away and stayed on scene until first responders got there. She suffered no injuries. Paramedics from the Riverside County Fire Department declared Leveque dead at the scene roughly 10 minutes following the crash.
