Borrego Springs, CA (April 30, 2026) – A pickup truck struck and killed a jogger on Di Giorgio Road in Borrego Springs. Emergency responders arrived around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, to the region south of Tilting T Road. According to authorities, a 25-year-old local resident was jogging in a traffic lane when he was struck by a northbound 2011 Nissan Frontier traveling at around 50 mph. The jogger died at the scene. Officials have not disclosed the victim’s name until his family is notified. The pickup truck driver was uninjured in the incident, and authorities do not suspect drugs or alcohol as contributing factors. Police are still investigating the crash’s cause, with additional details to be shared when available. We offer our deepest condolences to the deceased’s family. What Factors Can Increase Risk for Pedestrians on Rural Roads. On rural or low-traffic roads, pedestrians encounter greater risk from poor lighting and faster vehicle speeds. Drivers might have reduced time to spot and respond to people in the road, particularly before dawn or after sunset. Road design can contribute too, since certain spots may not have sidewalks or marked areas for pedestrians or joggers. This can bring pedestrians nearer to moving traffic. Speed is another key factor. As speed increases, impact force grows, and stopping distance extends.
