Bakersfield, CA (April 24, 2026) – A multi-vehicle collision at the Harris Rd and Summer Springs Dr intersection in Bakersfield claimed three lives on Thursday evening. The collision was reported at approximately 6:45 p.m. It involved a Toyota SUV, a Ford SUV, and a Honda sedan. Authorities stated that all three vehicles were heading eastbound on Harris Rd prior to the crash. Investigators found that the Toyota rear-ended the Ford at high speed, leading to a secondary collision with the Honda. A man and a woman in the Ford were declared dead at the scene. The Toyota driver was transported to a hospital, where she subsequently passed away. The two men in the Honda complained of pain after the accident. No further information on their condition has been disclosed. Officials are still probing the cause of the crash, with additional details to follow once available. Our heartfelt condolences go to the families of those who passed. How Rear-End Collisions Can Trigger Multi-Vehicle Accidents. Rear-end collisions can initiate chain reactions, particularly when vehicles are moving in the same direction at comparable speeds. A forceful rear-end collision can propel a vehicle into surrounding ones, causing a chain of crashes. Greater speeds typically amplify the impact force, leading to more serious damage and a higher chance of deaths.
