On the morning of September 25, 2025, in Sonoma, CA, a deadly multi-vehicle accident featuring a commercial gravel truck resulted in the closure of all lanes on State Route 121 close to Burndale Rd. This incident, which occurred around 7:34 a.m., led to an extended SigAlert as reported by the California Highway Patrol. and included a white dump truck towing double trailers, a blue and white van, and at least one other vehicle. CHP and fire department teams arrived at the location and verified that one or more individuals had been thrown from their vehicles. One death has been confirmed, but the name of the victim has not yet been disclosed. All vehicles that were part of the incident were found off the road, having collided with an embankment on the right. Emergency services completely closed SR-121 in both directions and set up traffic detours from Highway 12 to Ramal Rd and 8th Street East, to facilitate the investigation and extensive recovery efforts. A heavy tow truck was summoned to take away the gravel truck, which was situated about 20 feet away from the road. Teams worked alongside Caltrans to implement several complete road closures, anticipating a reopening in about three hours. The California Highway Patrol has yet to identify the official cause of the accident, and there is still limited information on whether factors like speed, mechanical failure, or driver mistakes contributed to the incident.
