San Diego, CA (September 10, 2025) – On Tuesday evening, emergency responders attended to a multi-car crash with injuries that occurred in the southbound lanes of Highway 163, close to the Friars Bridge overpass. The accident took place at approximately 7:47 p.m. led to an urgent medical response and resulted in considerable traffic congestion in the vicinity. First responders from San Diego Fire and Rescue swiftly arrived at the location, maneuvering through the heavy traffic and difficulties accessing the southbound route. As reported in radio dispatch communications, emergency medical teams and firefighters discovered a collision just north of Friars Bridge, involving several vehicles and leaving one person injured and requiring medical assistance. Paramedics evaluated the injured individual and organized treatment, even though there was a shortage of emergency transport units available at that moment. Emergency medical services reported that the patient needed urgent care, with dispatch labeling the situation as a high-priority “7 Echo” response, signifying a severe injury event, including burns, scalds, or other types of trauma. Because of the accident’s location and traffic blockages, emergency vehicles were required to divert from the northbound direction and re-enter the southbound lanes to access the area, making the response even more challenging. Although the complete details of the injuries are not available, responders indicated that one individual was treated at the scene while operations continued into the night. Officials were busy clearing the road and redirecting traffic away from the accident area. Authorities have not disclosed the reason behind the accident so far, but they plan to analyze video footage and testimonies from witnesses in their continued investigation. Our heartfelt condolences go out to everyone affected by this event, and we hope for a swift and full recovery for the injured person.
