San Diego, CA (February 17, 2026) – The California Highway Patrol reported a deadly crash on Interstate 83 West near East Victoria Drive Monday evening. The incident started taking place on Monday, February 16, around 9:40 p.m. Initial reports showed a silver Honda pulled over on the right-hand shoulder of I-8 West, with a white Lexus SUV stopped behind it. The reporting party, who is the aunt of the Honda driver, said she had been looking for her nephew and found him on the freeway. Emergency calls were made before she had approached the vehicle. Shortly after 10:00 p.m. Officers arrived and reported a male subject inside the Honda who seemed unconscious. First responders couldn’t initially open the car door and weren’t sure if the man was still breathing. Firefighters were called to the scene, and officers tried to enter the vehicle to start CPR.
