(San Mateo, CA) A woman was killed Friday morning, January 23, when she was hit by a vehicle while crossing a busy intersection in a crash on 17th Avenue. San Mateo police stated that officers arrived at the scene around 10:30 a.m. in response to reports of a crash at 17th Avenue and South El Camino Real. First responders arrived to discover a woman suffering critical injuries in the roadway. Paramedics administered emergency care and took her to a hospital. Officials declared her dead soon after she arrived. Authorities withheld the victim’s name and age until next of kin are notified. Police stated that initial reports show the vehicle was turning north from Bovet Road onto northbound South El Camino Real at the time of the crash. Investigators think the collision took place in the north crosswalk at South El Camino Real and 17th Avenue. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated fully with police. Police made no announcements regarding arrests and did not indicate if impairment or speed were factors. Authorities shut down both directions of South El Camino Real for roughly three hours as officers documented the scene.
