(Bakersfield, CA) On Tuesday morning, November 25, two individuals sustained significant injuries in a head-on collision on Highway 43. The incident occurred when a driver attempted to overtake another vehicle and crashed into an oncoming car. The California Highway Patrol reported the accident at approximately 9:22 a.m. on Highway 43183, located slightly south of Interstate 5. Authorities reported that a 31-year-old man from Bakersfield was driving a 2006 Toyota Sienna heading south at that time. Suddenly, he attempted to overtake another car at a high speed. Meanwhile, a 26-year-old woman from Taft was driving a 2018 BMW X1 north on Highway 43. During the overtaking maneuver, the Toyota entered the other lane and crashed headfirst with the BMW, according to onlookers who informed the CHP. This caused the Toyota’s driver to be thrown out of the car, while the BMW driver was left trapped inside. Personnel from the Kern County Fire Department arrived and rescued her soon after getting there. The drivers, who experienced serious injuries, were taken to close hospitals.
