San Diego, CA (May 25, 2026) – A 15-year-old boy sustained injuries on Sunday evening, May 24, after his electric bicycle collided with an SUV in San Diego’s Pacific Beach neighborhood. The crash was reported around 7:02 p.m. in the 2100 block of Pacific Beach Drive, close to Noyes Street. According to officials, the teenager was riding a Zooz eBike westbound on Pacific Beach Drive when a 17-year-old girl, driving a 2022 Kia Niro in the same direction, attempted a U-turn at Noyes Street. The e-bike collided with the driver’s side of the SUV. The teenager suffered a fractured right femur, but the injury was not life-threatening. The authorities stated that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the crash, and the exact cause is still being investigated as more information is collected. We wish the teenager a full recovery surrounded by excellent medical care and strong support. Why E-Bike Riders Often Sustain Serious Injuries in Crashes with Cars. E-bike users risk severe injuries when colliding with bigger vehicles. At urban speeds, riders have little protection aside from a helmet and their clothing. A fall or collision with a vehicle may cause fractures, head injuries, spinal pain, or damage to the limbs. Intersections and turning areas are particularly hazardous, as drivers and cyclists can be traveling in the same direction or crossing one another’s paths.
