Sloughhouse, CA (May 19, 2026) – Two teenage girls were killed and three others critically injured when their car slammed into a tree on Scott Road, just north of Latrobe Road, in Sloughhouse, California. The accident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. On Monday, May 18, all five teenagers were either current or former students of the Elk Grove Unified School District. A 16-year-old female driver and her 14-year-old front-seat passenger were both killed at the scene. The car burst into flames following the collision. Before first responders could reach the scene, motorists who were driving by pulled over and rescued the three passengers from the rear seats of the engulfed vehicle. All three victims were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The school district verified that four of the five teenagers are current students, while the fifth is a former student. Counseling services were offered at multiple schools in the district after the incident. Speed is thought to have contributed to the crash. It remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
