(Long Beach, CA) Authorities report that a tragic collision on Cherry Avenue early Tuesday morning claimed the life of 36-year-old Shalanda Young. The incident occurred on September 23 at approximately 4:00 a.m. The accident on Cherry Avenue took place close to Curry Street. According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers discovered Shalanda Young lying on the road with serious injuries. They offered prompt medical assistance until paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived. Unfortunately, despite their attempts, the paramedics declared Young deceased at the scene. Authorities later verified that she was a resident of Long Beach. Detectives reported that a 2015 Honda Civic was heading south on Cherry Avenue when the driver attempted to dodge a pedestrian in the road. Rather, the car hit Young. The 30-year-old driver from Norwalk stayed at the location of the incident and assisted the investigators.
