Santa Rosa, CA (January 14, 2026) – A fatal crash between a SMART Train and a bicyclist killed one individual Monday morning in Santa Rosa, the Santa Rosa Police Department reported. The collision happened around 10:27 a.m. On January 12 in the vicinity of Piner Road. Officials stated that the bicyclist, a male, was traveling westbound along the south side of the train tracks when he collided with a southbound SMART Train. Santa Rosa police, firefighters, and paramedics arrived on the scene right away. Even with attempts to save his life, the bicyclist was declared dead at the scene. His identity remains undisclosed until his next of kin are notified. SMART officials also arrived to help with the response. Fortunately, none of the five passengers or two crew members on the train were hurt. Officials are still probing the events that caused the crash. The crossing area and train schedules are under review as part of the ongoing investigation. We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends at this tragic time.
