San Onofre, CA (February 21, 2026) – An injury-involved traffic crash was reported early Friday morning on northbound I-5 near the San Onofre Nuclear Plant. The incident took place just before 6:00 a.m. It involved a dark SUV and a semi-truck. Initial reports stated that the SUV struck the rear of the semi-truck as both were heading northbound. According to a witness, the Ford Bronco slowed to around 30 mph on the shoulder, then sped up and hit the rear of the truck. Officials have not verified further information regarding the sequence of the crash. The two vehicles were found on the right-hand shoulder after the collision. Emergency services arrived at the scene, and the incident was subsequently updated to indicate minor injuries. Tow services were called to help with the damaged vehicles. Northbound lane traffic may have been impacted during the response. Authorities are still reviewing the incident.
