San Jose, CA (April 9, 2026) – A woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in San Jose. Emergency responders arrived at the White Road and Mt. McKinley Drive intersection around 8:09 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8. Initial reports indicate that a man in a 2005 Toyota, heading west on Mt. McKinley Drive, hit a female pedestrian during a left turn onto southbound White Road. Officials stated the woman was crossing the street eastward in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash. She was transported to a hospital, where she subsequently died from her injuries. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The victim’s identity has not been released yet, pending notification of next of kin. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, and additional details will be shared as they become available. We extend our sympathies to the victim’s family and friends.. Why Crosswalk Collisions Continue to Happen at Intersections. Pedestrian collisions can still occur at marked crosswalks when vehicles are turning. Drivers turning left frequently concentrate on approaching traffic and might not spot a pedestrian in the crosswalk right away. Timing and visibility can also play a role in these incidents. If a pedestrian steps into the crosswalk as a vehicle is already turning, the driver might have little time to respond.
