A 29-year-old driver and a 37-year-old passenger, both from Lodi, were declared dead at the scene. The train was en route from Fresno to Pasco, Washington, during the collision. The lead engine went off the rails, but no crew were hurt. Officials are still probing the reason behind the crash, with additional information to be shared once it’s obtainable. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the person who passed away. Why Are Railroad Crossing Gates Essential for Safety? Railroad crossing gates serve to alert drivers of an oncoming train.
