San Francisco, CA (March 28, 2026) – One pedestrian was killed and another injured when a vehicle hit them and then collided with a building at the Jackson St. and Beckett St. intersection in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 7:44 a.m. on March 27, a Friday. Officials stated that a silver SUV hit two pedestrians before slamming into the front of New Lun Ting Cafe on Jackson St. The vehicle ended up partially embedded in the building’s front facade. Responders found two injured pedestrians at the scene and transported them to a hospital for care. Officials reported that one pedestrian succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The second pedestrian received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators identified the driver as a 76-year-old man who stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Initial reports show the driver was trying to park when the vehicle hit the pedestrians and then crashed into the building. Authorities stated that neither alcohol nor drugs seemed to play a role in the incident. Building inspectors were summoned to evaluate damage to the four-story residential building.
