San Diego, CA (April 2, 2026) – A motorcyclist died early Thursday morning, April 2, following a crash with a sedan on northbound Interstate 805 near the Mission Valley area. The incident was initially reported just before 5 a.m. On the highway between Friars Road and Murray Ridge Road. Early reports show the motorcycle was moving at high speed prior to the crash. Emergency responders arrived at the site and verified at least one death. It is unclear how many people were involved or if anyone else was hurt. The crash resulted in a temporary full closure of the northbound lanes, leading to significant traffic backups in the area. Traffic was rerouted as crews handled the scene, with lanes reopening progressively until the freeway was completely cleared later that morning. Officials are still probing the crash’s cause, and further information will be shared when available. Our heartfelt condolences go to the deceased’s family. Why Freeway Motorcycle Crashes Can Be So Serious. Motorcycles provide less protection compared to enclosed vehicles, raising the risk of severe injury in a crash. On freeways, faster speeds can make it more difficult to regain control or dodge obstacles. Riders are more vulnerable to impact forces, particularly in crashes with larger vehicles. Even slight contact can cause a loss of balance and a fall onto the road. Traffic conditions also impact safety, especially in the early morning when visibility and awareness may be lower.
