San Francisco, CA (March 1, 2026) – A young child was killed and an adult injured Friday night, February 27, after a vehicle struck them at a San Francisco intersection. Emergency units responded around 8:55 p.m. Responding to the area of 4th Street and Channel Street after reports of a crash involving pedestrians. The two victims were transported to a hospital following the crash. Officials subsequently confirmed that the 2-year-old succumbed to injuries from the crash. The adult was still hospitalized, receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. No information has been disclosed regarding the driver or the events preceding the crash. Officials are still probing the reason behind the accident, with further information to be shared once it’s ready. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim. Why Intersection Pedestrian Accidents Are Particularly Hazardous. Pedestrian crossings frequently occur at intersections since they link sidewalks and crosswalks. Simultaneously, they bring vehicles and people into close proximity. Drivers nearing intersections must stay alert for traffic signals, turning vehicles, and pedestrians crossing the road. In crowded city environments, these combined elements can heighten crash risk if a driver overlooks a pedestrian in the crosswalk. Visibility can also be reduced at night.
