San Diego, CA (February 24, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash during the morning commute led to lane blockages along northbound SR-163 near Genesee Avenue in San Diego.. The collision was reported around 8:10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, in the northbound lanes of State Route 163 near the Genesee Avenue exit. Early reports indicated a white Chevrolet Tahoe and a red Mitsubishi were involved in the crash.. Initial details suggested a woman may have lost consciousness inside one of the vehicles. By 8:11 a.m., the crash was blocking at least one lane, with updates indicating additional lanes were affected as the situation developed.. One of the vehicles was reported to be undrivable and remained in the roadway. By approximately 8:21 a.m., responders at the scene noted that multiple lanes, including lanes three through five, were blocked, causing significant traffic disruption.. Emergency units responded to the scene to assist those involved and manage traffic conditions. The extent of injuries has not been confirmed at this time.. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.. Why Multi-Lane Crashes Can Cause Major Delays in San Diego. Crashes on multi-lane highways often lead to widespread delays because they affect a large portion of available roadway space. When several lanes are blocked, traffic may slow to a crawl or come to a complete stop.. Busy routes like SR-163 carry steady traffic throughout the day, especially during morning hours. Even a two-car crash can create long backups if vehicles cannot be quickly moved out of travel lanes.. Vehicle damage also affects how fast a scene can be cleared. When a car cannot be driven, it must remain in place until it can be safely removed, extending the time lanes stay blocked and traffic remains congested.
