San Diego, CA (March 9, 2026) – A fiery three-vehicle collision on Interstate 805 in San Diego early Sunday morning claimed one life. The incident took place around 4:22 a.m. On the northbound lanes of the freeway just south of Miramar Road, emergency units responded to the scene and found that at least one vehicle had hit the center divider and caught fire. The crash involved three vehicles, although officials have not yet released details about the occupants of the other cars. Following the collision, several northbound freeway lanes were closed while crews worked at the scene. Around 6:01 a.m., authorities closed lanes one through five on Interstate 805. While responders managed the crash aftermath, information about the victim has not been released yet. The crash is still being investigated. We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the victim who passed away. Why Multi-Vehicle Freeway Crashes Can Escalate Quickly. Major highways such as Interstate 805 typically handle high volumes of traffic at speeds greater than those on city streets.
