San Diego, CA (October 25, 2025) – Late Friday night, emergency personnel responded to a hit-and-run accident involving two vehicles on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8 close to the Sports Arena. The event took place at approximately 10:06 PM, leading to at least one individual being taken to a local hospital for medical care, based on audio from the dispatch of San Diego City and Poway Fire units. The collision happened on the right shoulder of I-8 East, a heavily trafficked area close to the Midway District. When they arrived, the teams from Engine 3 and Medic 35 evaluated the situation and verified that one of the vehicles involved had escaped prior to the arrival of California Highway Patrol officers. Paramedics assessed the situation and found that one of the injured individuals needed to be taken to Alvarado Hospital Medical Center. Another patient was assessed on location for issues that were not life-threatening. Emergency responders called for a flatbed tow for a stranded vehicle and maintained communication with the CHP, even as they experienced delays in response. The situation briefly affected traffic heading eastbound close to the Sports Arena exit while teams helped the victims, examined the area, and cleared debris from the shoulder. Officials have yet to provide details about the vehicle that fled the scene. An inquiry is currently in progress to find the driver involved and to establish the details surrounding the accident.
