The crash occurred on the southbound side of I-5 near the Carmel Mountain interchange area. The California Highway Patrol dispatch did not provide the number or descriptions of the vehicles involved.
By 3:21 p.m., CHP reported that the fire was blocking the rightmost lane. The dispatch did not specify whether the fire involved a vehicle or another object at the scene.
