Salinas, CA (May 5, 2026) – A significant three-vehicle collision took place Monday afternoon at the Spence Rd and Old Stage Rd intersection in Salinas. The incident was reported at approximately 1:09 p.m. Initial reports showed multiple vehicles blocking the road. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and discovered three involved vehicles: a black Dodge Charger and two gray Nissan cars. One of the vehicles reportedly veered into a ditch after the crash. Both lanes at the intersection were briefly closed while crews helped those involved and secured the area. At least one individual was transported for medical treatment, although the severity of injuries remains unconfirmed. The road was subsequently cleared, allowing traffic to resume once the vehicles were towed away. Officials are still probing the crash’s cause, with additional information to be shared as it emerges. Our thoughts go out to the injured as they get care. What Leads to Multi-Vehicle Collisions at Rural Intersections? Multi-vehicle crashes frequently happen at intersections where traffic travels at varying speeds or directions. Drivers might misjudge traffic gaps or neglect to yield, causing chain-reaction crashes. Rural intersections heighten the danger with poor visibility, scarce traffic signals, and elevated speeds. Cars pulling out from side streets might not always see approaching traffic clearly, heightening the chance of a crash. In multi-vehicle incidents, the impact from one collision can propel vehicles into those nearby.
